Why aren't Mark Teixeira and Manny Ramirez being signed?
I understand teams being tentative with Manny because of his personality and the huge contract he wants. But Teixeira is only 28 and he fields well and is a monster offensively. Are their positions not in high demand? What teams are still talking to them.
Do you think because of what A-Rod did to Boras last year they're not taking him seriously and are just waiting till his clients budge?
Not many teams can afford their price tags. The ones who can are holding out, trying to bully Boras to get their preferred amount.
I don't think it's a matter of not taking Boras seriously. I think it's more the fact that very few teams can afford the price tag of those two players. Quite a few losing teams want one or the other. Several winning teams want one or the other. The winning teams figure they can hold out on Boras and get the level down to what they want because neither player will jump on board a losing team.
It's a matter of making Boras think that no one is really interested. If he tones down his price tag, teams will revamp their interest, especially winning teams like the Red Sox. They've stated that they're out, but no one believes it. They are very much in it and if they can get Boras knocking on their door, instead of the other way around, they can do what they want.
It's more of trying to beat Boras at his own game. But he'll probably win anyway.
And Boras is a fantastic agent. It's his job to get what he wants in whatever way possible. He's the master of manipulation because his job calls for it. It's why he's the best. If I were an MLB agent, I'm pretty sure Boras would be my preferred agent.
As I've seen others point out around the site, Boras is not bad for baseball. He might be bad for your personal enjoyment of the game, but it's not his job to make baseball enjoyable for you. Boras would be a fool to be bad for baseball. That's where he makes all his money.
