How And Why To Use Acrylic Sheets In Your Fine Art Framing Projects
Picture framing takes an assortment of supplies in order to achieve the final result. The frame is the first consideration, because the sizes and types of other materials will often be based on the frame selection. The artwork is attached to the mountboard, and then a matboard is used to hold the artwork in place and to draw the viewer's attention to the center of the frame where the artwork lies. The first framing supply that anyone will see, however, is the glazing. Acrylic glazing sheets offer an attractive alternative for glazing used in the picture frame, and will offer the finishing touch to your fine art photography or other artwork.
One of the best features offered by acrylic sheets used in picture framing is that the plastic sheet acrylic is quite lightweight. This is an important consideration if your framed artwork is large in size and if you plan on hanging it up for display. Should a large framed picture fall, if glass is the framing choice the results could be harmful to the artwork and any people nearby. Acrylic glazing sheets are very lightweight, and thus offer a safe alternative for artwork that will hang on a wall.
When you buy acrylic sheets, you will also do so because you are concerned with the preservation of your artwork. Acrylic sheet suppliers offer acrylic sheets that protect your fine art from damaging ultraviolet rays. These rays can fade photographs quickly, and so conservation-quality acrylic glazing sheets are the best choice for those photographs that you wish to preserve for more than ten years and that will be displayed in a brightly lit room.
Plastic sheet acrylic is also a good choice when you want to reduce the glare from light. When you buy acrylic sheets you can look for non-glare acrylic sheets that have a matte finish with relatively little loss of sharpness. While glass offers a slightly green tint, acrylic glazing sheets are clear, which can make a difference in the way your fine art looks. You can also buy acrylic sheets that offer ultraviolet protection as well as a non-glare surface.
Cleaning acrylic is very easy. You should use a soft cloth rather than paper towels, because paper towels can scratch the surface of the glazing. Micro fiber cloths, found in the cleaning section of many stores, can also be safely used on acrylic surfaces.
