Released by Disney in the fall of 2008, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is a pleasant surprise to young and old alike. Most viewers were prepared to write this one off as just another B-rated Disney blunder, but the silly twists and turns along with some marvelous voice-overs made the film almost delightful.
The setting begins in a posh Beverly Hills neighborhood where the dog's owner, Viv played by Jamie Lee Curtis, leaves the dog in the charge of her niece Rachel played by Piper Perabo.

Chloe, the pampered Chihuahua (voiced by Drew Barrymore), is taken off to Tijuana with Rachel and her friends for a few days of partying. Chloe, who is used to wearing diamond collars and booties somehow gets ‘lost' at the hotel and is left to fend for herself on the streets of the crime ridden Tijuana. This is where the real fun begins and is largely due to the wonderful voices of seasoned actors who make the other animals literally come alive.
For instance, Papi who is the Chihuahua owned by Viv's gardener comes to Tijuana looking for Chloe. The voice over is done by none other than George Lopez. Along the way Chloe meets a former police dog, Delgado, who was thrown off the force for some ‘unnamed reason' is voiced by Andy Garcia. There is a street rat voiced by Cheech Marin and an iguana voiced by Paul Rodriguez.

The action is both fun and bizarre and totally entertaining, but the real success of the movie is largely due to the wonderfully voiced animals that are almost human in their emotions and actions. The film depicts typical stereotypical prejudices in such a way as to make a point satirically without being blatantly obvious. Beverly Hills Chihuahua is one for the entire family.
