New movies in theaters - newest film "The Machete" from Robert Rodriguez
Robert Rodriguez returns to the grindhouse by means of this ultraviolently over the top exploitationer. "Machete'' started off life as one of the fake trailers in the B-picture homage "Grindhouse,'' the 2007 Rodriguez-Quentin Tarantino collaboration that empowered the 2 directors to pay homage to their splattery '70s drive-in origins. And any person whose appetite was initially whetted by way of that teasing coming attraction without doubt will be satiated by Robert Rodriguez and co-director Ethan Maniquis' full-length incarnation, which provides everything which was promised.

However the flick never ever treats Machete like as a joke. Rodriguez is able to changeover from a cartoonishly raw scene of several decapitations (the machete is an extremely razor-sharp weapon) to a gratuitous shower scene that slyly employs Alba with her consent, and then to a phony political ad that seems like the newest sound bite from Arizona , and then to the slapstick comedy of Machete disguised as a gardener while battling a villain with a lawn edger, and through all the changes the tone of engaged mayhem remains to be consistent. The convoluted storyline for the most part is an excuse just for a continual sequence of action set pieces in which Machete disposes his oppositions implementing any and all razor-sharp things accessible -- from surgical instruments to the fearsome titular blade (not to mention a weed-whacker battle that could prompt well-heeled Los Angeles residents to treat their landscapers a tiny bit better). It's all implemented with the director's normal low-budget flair and finesse, and such moments as Machete carrying out a round-robin decapitation of numerous hoods at once or rappelling down the side of a building using one of his victim's intestines undoubtedly will have audiences howling with acceptance.
Sure, "Machete'' is trash - an egregiously bloody, politically wrong action film about a badass Mexican Federale searching for retribution. However, with Steven Seagal playing the drug lord and Robert De Niro playing the senator, you may possibly start to sense the fun to be had with this flick.
