This can be even more important than picking the right gift. There are several different aspects to keep in mind. This guide will help to aid you inyour photo selection. Image selection:
This maybe the most important step in the process of your personalized photo gift. Once you have decided on the gift that you are getting for someone, you will need to choose the photo to put on it. Many times, a theme is the best route to go. If it is a Father’s day present, you will want to put a picture of the children or family on the gift, a romantic present will need a nice picture of the family or the significant other on it. There are many different options for this step. Only you will know what is best. A fun loving gift will call for a more “whacky” or candid image, while more serious gifts or puzzles may call for a memorable landscape or professional looking photo. You will want to look at the concept of the gift and decide on whether a current photo or new image is needed.
Color:
Color isa very important thing when taking pictures. If the colors are too bright or loud they may take from the image, while if they are too dull or lifeless, they will not be as appealing. Taking the Picture:
When it comes to taking the picture that you will use, one tip is the placement of the people in the image. It is a good rule of thumb to have the focus of the image take up around 60% of the total picture. This puts the focus on the subject of the picture. There is no set formula or magic equation for the perfect amount of space that the main object of the picture should be in, but having too much of the personin the picture can look very amateur while not having enough will lose the focus of the image completely. By keeping the focus of the picture in about 60-70% of the whole photo, you will get the idea across and have a very professional looking product. One other tip to a great photo is to keep the subject just off of center. If you imagine a small square in the middle of the picture and put the subject of the photo on one of the corners, you can get a very professional looking picture. Many times when the focus of the image is dead center, the background can belost or even distracting. By having the main idea of the picture slightly off of center, you can have a very visually appealing look to your photos. With the subject slightly to the side, the background will help to augment your picture and notlook like it is competing with the subject for dominance. A slight offset tendto blend the image with the surroundings.

Can anyone reccomend a good 'affordable' digital camera that will take great photos at a hockey game?

if you want to get a real camera get a canon eos digital rebal xti or soemthing of a similar neture. depending on how far away you are and how much light theres is you may need to get more lenses and an external flash untit. I cant speak much on the hockey pictures because i live in mississippi but that camera would be a good begginer camera. Also you could get a point and shoot camera if you dont want to spend alot money but the pictures will not be aas good
